Blowing Up the Hana-Kan Lobby of the Beppu SUGINOI HOTEL with Special Effects to Revitalize the Tourist Town of Beppu by Promoting its Use as a Filming Location

TOKYO, Japan - August 9, 2022 - ORIX Hotel Management Corporation (“ORIX Hotel Management”) announced today that the Beppu short movie "Daikaiju Bugon"—which ORIX Hotel Management sponsored and provided ORIX HOTELS & RESORTS "Beppu SUGINOI HOTEL" ("SUGINOI HOTEL") as its filming location—will be released to the public on August 19, 2022 at Beppu Bluebird Theater in Beppu, Oita.

ORIX Hotel Management is promoting the Regional Co-creation Project^* at a total of 15 of its managed onsen hotels and hotels (including those outsourced to third parties). As part of this initiative, we are developing the "ORIX Location Service" to promote the use of our facilities as locations throughout the region and to our managed facilities. As an initiative to revitalize Beppu's tourism and other aspects by using the hot springs and small movie theaters in the region to communicate Beppu’s charms as a lively region, ORIX Hotel Management expressed its support for the Beppu Short Movie Project and offered SUGINOI HOTEL as a filming location, along with partial sponsorship of the project.
The Short Movie Project based in Beppu, Oita was launched with the aim of using films to revitalize Beppu, a tourist destination that has been losing tourists due to the widespread of COVID-19. The films produced for this project are short films created by some of Japan's best film directors with original stories. "Daikaiju Bugon" is the second film in this project, and it is directed by Kiyotaka Taguchi, the director of the Ultraman series and other films. The hotel Hana-kan, which closed on December 1, 2021 for reconstruction, was used to shoot parts of the film, including a special effects scene in which the lobby was blown up, and hotel staff also participated in the film as members of the cast.
ORIX Hotel Management will continue to stimulate growth in demand for tourism and contribute to the revitalization of regional economies through diverse ideas and collaborations with local communities.

This is a project in which some of Japan's best film directors produce their own original short films in a relay format in Beppu. The films will be screened at mini-theaters throughout Japan, starting with Beppu, and a portion of the sales will be used to renovate Beppu's public hot springs.

■About the Premium Screening of "Daikaiju Bugon”
Prior to the film's general release on August 19, 2022, a premiere screening will be held on August 18. Guests at the premiere include director Kiyotaka Taguchi, lead actor Takaya Aoyagi, and the president of ORIX Hotel Management, Takaaki Nitanai, who will participate in a talk session after the screening. They will talk about how the film was shot and their thoughts on the revitalization of the tourist town of Beppu.
