ORIX Commences Supply of Power from Japan’s Largest Airport Onsite PPAs to Kansai International Airport and Osaka International Airport

Jan 31, 2025

TOKYO, Japan – January 31, 2025 – ORIX Corporation (“ORIX”) announced today that the installation of solar power generation systems has been completed at Kansai International Airport and Osaka International Airport, which are operated by Kansai Airports. With a total capacity of approximately 23.4 MW, the solar power generation systems mark one of the largest onsite power purchase agreement (PPA) in Japan*1 and will begin supplying power to the airports on February 1, 2025*2.

In this business, a special purpose company (SPC) established by ORIX is the power producer, installing solar power generation systems of approximately 22.8 MW at Kansai International Airport and approximately 0.6 MW at Osaka International Airport, for a total of approximately 23.4 MW, and supplying power to the respective airports. These systems are expected to provide the largest power generation at airports within Japan*1, and after the commencement of operations, ORIX Renewable Energy Management Corporation will be in charge of operation and maintenance (O&M). The generated power will be consumed onsite at each airport, and the annual power generation in the first fiscal year is expected to be approximately 27,800 MWh at Kansai International Airport, which is equivalent to approximately 16.6% of the airport’s annual power consumption, while that at Osaka International Airport is expected to be approximately 600 MWh and equivalent to approximately 1.3% of its annual consumption. In total, the airports are expected to reduce their annual CO2 emissions by approximately 12,300 tons*3.
ORIX is promoting corporate PPA in which it borrows the land or roof of an electricity consumer such as a company, installs power generation systems there, and supplies the electricity generated to the consumer over a long period of time. ORIX will continue to promote initiatives for making renewable energy sources the main sources of power and contribute to the realization of a decarbonized society.
