ORIX Invests in Informatix, a Developer of Geographic Information Systems

TOKYO, Japan - December 29, 2020 -ORIX Corporation (“ORIX”) announced today that it has acquired 95% of shares issued by Informatix Inc. (“Informatix”), which is a developer of geographic information systems (GIS).

Informatix is an electronic systems developer with strengths in digital mapping, a process for collecting a range of information and displaying it on maps. As a systems integrator, it provides business applications, customized to customer needs, based on the high-performance engines it has independently developed as the pioneer of GIS engines in Japan. Its offerings include disaster mitigation maps for local governments, fire spread simulation systems for fire departments, and market analysis systems for the retail industry. Going forward, the market for GIS systems that enable three-dimensional spatial data analysis and visual processing through use of the latest technologies, such as 5G and AI, is expected to expand further.

Informatix also operates an XR^*1 business where it develops a range of products, including mixed reality (MR) tools for head-mounted wearable devices, which enable holograms of design drawings to be overlaid onto the real world. One such tool is “GyroEye Holo,” a business efficiency tool that incorporates various functionality such as a remote communication tool for connecting constructions sites with the head office. Under the i-Construction^*2 initiative of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, this tool has achieved an “A” ranking (the highest level) for mechanisms that achieve 25% or greater productivity improvements under the “projects related to the introduction and utilization of innovative technologies to dramatically enhance productivity at construction sites,” a public initiative of the same ministry. This tool is also a medium- to long-term solution to construction industry issues such as aging and skills transferal, and it has been adopted by about 70 companies, including some the largest construction companies.

ORIX has been focused on the information technology field for some time, having previously invested in Primagest, Inc.^*3, a company engaged in information processing services, and APRESIA Systems, Ltd.^*4, a network equipment manufacturer. Through this latest investment, ORIX will leverage its base of operations to contribute to further growth at Informatix while expanding its investment in the information technology business, which is expected to become more and more necessary, and helping address social issues.

Going forward, ORIX will continue to use the expertise developed by the ORIX Group for investments aimed at supporting the development of companies and industries that possess stable business foundations and high-quality technologies and services, and which are expected to experience further growth in the future.
