ORIX Rentec Introduces a Spherical Drone and 100 MP Camera in its Drone Photography Service

TOKYO, Japan – August 29, 2019 – ORIX Rentec Corporation (“ORIX Rentec”) today announced the addition of two new items, ELIOS and iXM-100, to the line-up in its drone photography service. ELIOS is a Swiss-made spherical drone that is capable of flying indoors, while iXM-100 is a high-resolution digital camera made in Denmark that can be equipped to drones.
ELIOS is a spherical drone protected by a carbon fiber frame, designed for inspecting indoor spaces. It is able to continue flying even if it collides with walls or obstacles. The drone features a unique flight controller, meaning it can fly in a stable manner in enclosed indoor spaces where GPS signals cannot penetrate. ELIOS enables images to be taken of elevated and confined spaces such as chimneys and the insides of boilers, the ceilings of theaters and factories, and amusement park rides.
The iXM-100 is an ultra-high-resolution digital camera equipped with a 100 mega-pixel sensor. The camera features high-sensitivity, low-noise, and zero-distortion, making it capable of capturing high-resolution images on which, even when enlarged, details can clearly be seen; indeed, cracks measuring just 0.2 millimeters can be seen on images taken of objects circa 40 meters away at most. When equipped to a drone, the iXM-100 can also capture wide-range images.
ORIX Rentec’s inspection service provides photography of areas of infrastructure and various types of facilities to be inspected. The introduction of a spherical drone enables indoor facilities to be photographed, while the use of drones also reduces time and effort and scaffolding installation costs by providing visual inspections. In this way, the service supports the safe and rapid inspection work of the company’s customers. The company also rents out a variety of drones and high-precision, high-resolution cameras individually.
ORIX Rentec launched its drone business in March 2017 and provides sales and rental of various types of drones. It also offers a Drone Training School which helps operators to learn drone maneuvering skills and an agency service for making applications to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism for permission to fly a drone.
Going forward, ORIX Rentec will continue to provide services for using drones and thereby contribute to the resolution of customers’ problems.
