ORIX Auto Launches New Mobile Office Vehicle Equipped with Solar Panels

TOKYO, Japan – February 28, 2020 – ORIX Auto Corporation (“ORIX Auto”) announced today that it has developed a new model of its mobile office vehicle equipped with solar panels; it has added 46 of these new vehicles to its rental fleet. Mobile office vehicles are available to rent at all 60 ORIX Truck Rental sites across Japan.

Based on the Nissan NV200, the mobile office vehicle is a specialized van that incorporates unique ORIX Auto designs so that it can be used as a satellite office. The vehicle is equipped with office facilities such as stowable desks and seats, as well as a sub-battery that enables electricity to be used even when the engine is switched off. The solar panels on the latest model enable the battery to be charged via sunlight, in addition to while driving and through external power sources.

ORIX Auto developed its mobile office vehicles to increase work efficiency among employees who spend a significant amount of time traveling in cars, particularly in non-urban areas. The company began offering the vehicles for rental in 2016. In response to growing demand from companies promoting work style reforms, ORIX Auto has increased its fleet of mobile office vehicles to 273 units—a 2.7-fold increase over 2018. Users have praised the vehicles, commenting that “employees now commute to and from work sites directly, without stopping by our offices, leading to increased work efficiency,” and “we used the vehicles as resting spaces and meeting spaces at our work sites.”

Going forward, ORIX Auto will continue to plan and develop specialized vehicles equipped to meet the needs of its customers.
