Robot Rental Service “ RoboRen” Begins Offers Rental of Collaborative Robots “TM Series”

TOKYO, Japan - June 11, 2019 - ORIX Rentec Corporation (“ORIX Rentec”) announced that, starting today, it will launch a service allowing corporate clients to rent the TM Series of Collaborative Robots developed by OMRON Corporation (“OMRON”). This will be handled by RoboRen, ORIX Rentec’s next-generation robot rental service.

The TM Series of collaborative, single-arm robots use safe, high-sensitivity sensors to enable them to work alongside humans without the need for a safety fence. The robots are equipped with image processing capabilities that enable pattern matching^*1, barcode reading, and color classification; in addition, due to their five mega-pixel wide-angle lenses—which are equipped as standard—they are not only capable of picking, placing, and assembling parts, they can also carry out inspections, measurements, sorting and other activities that humans use their vision for.

The robot hands are equipped with Plug and Play^*2 software that enable easy connections and replacements, while Direct Teaching functions enable the robot arm to learn new movements just by moving them manually; there is therefore no need for specialized knowledge of robotic language, and operation is simple. The robots can be easily implemented even by companies that manufacture a wide variety of products and whose manufacturing processes frequently change.

As customer needs continue to diversify, the manufacturing industry has seen an increase in multi-product small-lot production, as well as a shortening of product lifecycles. Flexible production lines that cater to fluctuating demand are becoming necessary, and this has resulted in growing demand for rentals as a means of conducting demonstration tests.

By including basic operation training and telephone support for the duration of the rental, the TM Series rental service enables customers to implement the robots in a smooth manner. The TM Series Six-Month Trial Rental Package starts at 141,000 yen per month for the TM5-900 model, excluding consumption tax. The addition of the TM Series rental service increases the line-up of robots handled by RoboRen to 39 models from 18 manufacturers.

Going forward, ORIX Rentec intends to continue promoting the use of robots; by supporting automation in a wide range of industrial fields, the company intends to help resolve the shortage of personnel in Japan and increase productivity.

*1 “Pattern matching” refers to identifying registered patterns (samples, and templates) from among photographed image data.
*2 When the robot is connected to peripheral devices, Plug and Play enables the corresponding applications to cooperate automatically, and automatically imports devices, and establishes settings. Simply connect (plug) the robot in and it can be used automatically (play).
