ORIX Car Share Launches its First Foray into Tohoku Prefecture

TOKYO, Japan – April 17, 2018 – ORIX Auto Corporation (Head Office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Katsunobu Kamei) announced that it would begin providing car sharing service in the Tohoku area (Aomori, Iwate, Miyagi, and Fukushima Prefectures) starting on April 20, 2018.

ORIX’s car sharing business, ORIX Car Share, is already available in the Tokyo Metropolitan, Chubu, and Kinki areas, as well as Naha City in Okinawa Prefecture. With its expansion into the Tohoku area, the service will now be available in Tokyo Metropolitan and 17 prefectures.

All of ORIX’s new car share locations are within walking distance from 7 main Tohoku Shinkansen stations, and will offer 20 types of standard class cars (all 4WD and equipped with stud-less tires during winter), mostly compact car models, at each of its 11 locations. This service is offered to residents in the neighboring area, as well as corporate members and individuals visiting the Tohoku area for business, sightseeing, etc.

For new members who join ORIX Car Share between April 20 to June 30, 2018, the IC card issue fee (1,000 yen per card) will be waived as part of ORIX’s campaign to celebrate its expansion into the Tohoku area.

Since ORIX Auto Corporation launched Japan’s first car sharing business in 2002, the company has worked on developing a number of measures to create new markets and improve customer convenience. Based on big data analysis last September, the company began offering an “Odekake Coupon”^*1 for preferred customers. Currently ORIX Car Share members are eligible for privileged benefits at more than 2,800 facilities nationwide through our customer exclusive app. Last October we partnered with Nihon Parking Corporation to begin expanding services to NPC24H parking lots, as well as partnering with NTT DOCOMO Inc. to expand business in collaboration with d Car Shares.

Going forward, we will continue striving to offer improved customer convenience and service and develop new projects and additional stations in cooperation with each facility location, among other endeavors.
