ORIX Forms Alliance with Radishbo-ya in Financial Services for Agricultural Producers

Oct 18, 2011

TOKYO, Japan – October 18, 2011 – ORIX Corporation (TSE: 8591; NYSE: IX), a leading integrated financial services group, announced today that it will begin offering financial services for agricultural producers from November 2011 under an alliance with Radishbo-ya Co., Ltd (hereinafter, “Radishbo-ya”).

These services will be offered as part of a new business being launched by Radishbo-ya from November called the “Radishbo-ya Agricultural Comprehensive Service*.” The services will include the provision of leases, rental services and hire purchase for introducing agricultural machinery and equipment, plastic greenhouses and other facilities to agricultural producers allied with Radishbo-ya. The services will enable agricultural producers to hold down initial costs of introducing machinery and equipment, thereby smoothing out costs.

In 2009, there were approximately 1.7 million farming households in Japan, according to a survey by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, and the vast majority of these were small-scale farmers. For this reason, both their output and sales are low, meaning they lack creditworthiness with financial institutions and the ability to make capital investments. This service will offer leases and rental services to them through Radishbo-ya, enabling even small-scale farmers to introduce the machinery and equipment they need.

Looking ahead, ORIX will work with Radishbo-ya to identify customer needs in the agriculture field. ORIX will use this information to provide a full range of products and services that fit the multifarious needs of agricultural sector customers, ranging from financing when procuring equipment to environmental and energy services and more.

(*) This business aims to reduce costs in agricultural production by allowing the approximately 2,600 farming households that are allied with Radishbo-ya to jointly purchase and obtain credit through Radishbo-ya when (1) leasing agricultural machinery, etc., (2) purchasing seed and seedlings, and (3) buying agricultural materials.
