Jul 02, 2018

TOKYO, Japan – July 2, 2018 – ORIX Auto Corporation (“ORIX Auto”) announced that its “Ever Drive” safety drive monitoring service was adopted by Okayama prefecture for its Safety Drive Monitoring Project, and designed to reduce the risk of automobile accidents caused by elderly drivers. ORIX Auto will begin publicizing the monitoring project to drivers in the prefecture aged 65 or older from today. This is the first time “Ever Drive” has been adopted by a local government.

The Okayama Prefecture Safety Drive Monitoring Project is designed to collect data on hazardous driving behaviors such as sudden braking to utilize for traffic safety in the prefecture. This project targets Okayama Prefecture residents aged 65 or older that drive daily. The goal is to acquire data on driving behaviors for the six months between September 1, 2018 and February 28, 2019 using the “Ever Drive” automobile IoT services for individuals developed with ORIX Auto’s telematics technology. The system is being provided to project participants free of charge. The system grasps hazardous driving information and helps visualize hazardous driving behaviors to reduce traffic accidents.

Installed into individual vehicles, “Ever Drive” monitors speed, location, driving time and route to evaluate hazardous driving behaviors. Drivers can then check a map that shows their hazardous behaviors along with the time and location at which they occurred. This can also be compare with past data to see changes or improvements in driving behaviors and driving time. This makes it easier for elderly drivers to recognize their improvement in behavior, or the changes due to dementia or other issues.

ORIX Auto began offering the automobile IoT service “e-Telematics” for corporate customers in 2006. Highly regarded as a tool to increase driver awareness, this system visualizes potential risks caused by hazardous behaviors that drivers may have failed to recognize. It has been installed in approximately 158,000 vehicles at 2,340 companies nationwide. Making its experience and know-how available to the public to reduce the risk of automobile accidents caused by elderly drivers, ORIX Auto has offered “Ever Drive” to individual drivers since February 2017.

ORIX Auto continues providing services that are useful for the market and society including automobile IoT services that contribute to safe driving.
