Campaign Launched to Donate Part of the Sales Revenues of Rental Car Fees to Coral Transplantation Activities in Okinawa

TOKYO, Japan –June 1, 2018 – Pam, Inc. and ORIX Auto Corporation (“ORIX Auto”), announced today that they will be conducting a campaign from July 1 to September 30, 2018, that will enable rental car users to contribute to preserving Okinawa’s coral reefs.
Reservations will be accepted beginning June 5, Environment Day1.

During the campaign period, users who sign up through the Tabirai Car Rental, the car rental comparison/booking site operated by Pam, Inc. to rent one of six hybrid car models available from ORIX Rent a Car in Okinawa, will see the equivalent of one percent of their rental fees go to support “SANGO ORIX” project2 activities to protect and restore Okinawa’s coral reefs. Each year, the ORIX Miyauchi Foundation invites children from child welfare facilities in Okinawa Prefecture to the Okiden Kaihatsu Co., Inc. Aquaculture Research Center to participate in preparing coral seedlings for transplantation off the shores of Okinawa, thus contributing to reef restoration.

The campaign, which is marking its sixth year this year, was conceived by the two companies in the hopes of protecting and nurturing the beauty of the ocean around Okinawa, and contributing to the preservation of the coral reefs which are so important to maintaining that rich natural environment. In the first five years of the campaign, 748 coral seedlings have been transplanted, with monetary donations reaching a total of 2,614,333 yen.

Going forward, Pam, Inc. and ORIX Auto will continue to support coral transplantation and a variety of other social contribution activities that help reduce environmental impacts.

1 Based on a proposal from Japan, the United Nations has designated June 5 as World Environment Day. In Japan, Environment Day is stipulated under the Basic Environment Law.

2 The project has been active since 2009. Refer to the ORIX Group web page below for details.
