ORIX Eco Services to launch on-site storage device data destruction service

TOKYO, Japan - March 9, 2020 - ORIX Eco Services Corporation (“ORIX Eco Services”) announced that it will launch a dispatch service to destroy storage device data using special-purpose vehicles on April 20.

ORIX Eco Services has developed special-purpose vehicles equipped with crushers for the service. These vehicles are dispatched to customers, and storage device data is destroyed in their presence. ORIX Eco Services will initially roll out its services in the Metropolitan region, where it has acquired licenses for the collection and transportation of industrial waste; going forward, the company intends to expand the areas covered by the service. In addition to the magnetic destruction and physical destruction of hard disk drives, the special-purpose vehicles are also equipped with shredders capable of destroying solid state drives, data on which is difficult to destroy through magnetic means. Vehicles are also equipped with monitor cameras that enable customers to watch employees at work and observe the data destruction take place in real-time.

ORIX Eco Services offers comprehensive services for the collection of disused computers, servers, and other information devices, which includes data destruction at its facilities. In recent years, there has been increasing societal demand for both local governments and corporations that work with personal data and other highly confidential information to dispose of their storage devices in an appropriate manner. As a result, ORIX Eco Services intends to establish systems that enable it to carry out the physical or magnetic destruction of storage devices on-site, and to enable customers to witness this destruction being carried out first-hand.
